Journal 6-17-08

How long have you been using a computer/the Internet? What kind of computer do you have at home? What do you usually spend most of your computer time at home doing? What do you hope/expect to learn from this class?

I am using <em> and </em> tags now, as opposed to the <i> and </i> tags we learned in our year. Oh yes. Closing tags. :)

I started using a computer when I was pretty young, almost too young really to remember when. I would guess I first started to play around with MS Paint and random flash games, provided by my brother and my dad, when I was around five or six. Maybe a year later, I started to get farther on the Internet than the back and forward buttons.

That would be, of course, Neopets.

I have an eMachines PC at home, with a widescreen Acer monitor and a boatload of external hardware. Said hardware is mainly used to pursue my computer hobbies. I have a webcam sitting on top of my monitor (damn thing keeps falling off) - NOT for taking pictures, but occasionally someone on MSN or AIM will video call me. Though I haven’t really used it to much of an extent, I do have a cheap, but decent, tablet.

The most commonly used of my hardware accessories would be my speakers/headphones, as well as my gaming mouse. I spent a part of my evening playing Counterstrike 1.6 with my friends.

I use my computer for a larger variety of time-killers, including emulator, web-surfing (curse you, StumbleUpon! just one more click…), and storywriting - I find that ideas come more easily when I can dole them out in the form of text faster - but the most major one would be communication. I run 3 chat clients on my computer at once, not including online chatrooms or in-game conversations.
