From the Metaverse today...but expanded.

This may be a kind of weird question, but do you guys think you are more of a “giver” or a “getter”? Both? Of course, it’s not the point of the holidays, but I was just curious.

I feel like I’m a giver. I like to give presents, but usually my own bag is mostly empty when I get home. I don’t mind if I don’t get anything in return, but if you give someone something handmade or special, do you think that they owe you? Around this time of year, I always feel a pull of strings on my ethical side and my generous side. It’s a fine balance, because making someone expect something from you isn’t good, but you can’t tell them that.

For example, I know a girl who is extremely nice and popular, and therefore gets a lot of presents on her birthday, Christmas, etc. I certainly don’t hate her or harbor feelings of jealousy, but many people know that she never gives any gifts in return. Technically, I had some experience with that…::mumbles:: Anyways, would you think that it would be right to continue giving her gifts? Especially expensive ones? Broadway merchandise doesn’t come cheap, and I know for a fact she didn’t buy the ones she has.

Oops, gotta finish later. Computer class, I hate thee.

Since summerschool...

I've changed a lot. For most of it I don't even know why, but I do know it happened after summerschool.

Personality changes:

I'm still a morpher of sorts. I don't think I really have my own personality yet, but if I do it's so crazy I can't even see it. I know I've been a morpher since, like, 6th grade. By summertime that year I was half-crazy sarcasm and half-monkey. The monkey was already there, but I've got a good idea where the crazy sarcasm humor came from. Not that I'm any good at it.

Anyways, by the end of seventh grade I can't say I was the most cheerful person around. By then I was starting to realize that sarcasm does NOT work for me, and I'd already forgotten what kind of humor I'd had in elementary school. I was kind of wandering around for a while. But then during eighth grade, I hear someone saying that I'm a lot happier. I laugh a lot more, I'm starting to lose the sarcasm a little bit, and my temper isn't quite as...explosive? I don't know, but I used to get mad pretty easily.

I don't know why I'm like I am now. Maybe after hanging around for my hyper little (ahem. height-wise. She's older than me.) cousin, or maybe after just being in a light and fun class like TIC. Either way, if I had a choice, I'd keep it this way. I don't remember what it was to be like me in seventh or sixth or fifth grade, but I wouldn't go back.

Behavior? If it's any different from personality.

I know EXACTLY why this happened. After I saw An Inconvenient Truth, and after all those discussions we had on the forums, I've been a lot more conservative. I refuse to even recycle scratch paper. I keep it in case I need to cover my table with something while I go nuts with a gluestick. I write down my French vocab on it. I won't even throw away the tiniest scraps of construction paper. Actually, that was part Connie. She keeps all her construction paper in a huge bag. If you can see, don't turn on the lights. I get mad at my brother all the time because he leaves his roomlight on all day. ALL. DAY. -grrrr- And even though you could technically leave your lights on in a hotel (no electric bills!) I turn them all off anyways. I shut off my monitor whenver I leave the computer.

If anything I need to start working on saving tissue and toiler paper, which I use for, like, EVERYTHING.

Anyways, if anything's changed negatively, it's my shoulder alignment. Today during PE, I could feel one shoulder dipping lower than the other one. I used a one-strap backpack for six weeks of TIC, and I swear that Nutshell book gets 10x heavier on my back. And my daily backpack, which I've had since first grade, has really crappy straps. One of them is normal, and the other one has like, no stuffing. Either the weight or the lengths are uneven. My binder doesn't help. One side is heavier than the other.

Anyways. I can't think of anything else right now.

[EDIT:] Oh, right. I have this nagging voice in my head that makes me throw my food scraps into the green waste instead of the trash can, even though the bin is outside. Once I peeled like, 3 persimmons, and there was this huge pile of persimmon skin on a plate and I refused to throw it away. I waited until Tansen brought the garbage cans back in from the street and tossed them in the green waste bin.

Must...update...!

Grrrr!!! >[

Anyways, to-do list has been updated -

Yearbook cover lineart:DONE
Yearbook inside page background, inked: 70% finished
Practice for flute recital - UNDER PROGRESS
Practice for piano examsDONE
Practice for piano recitalDONE
Practice keyboard for Winter Concert - UNDER PROGRESS
Find someplace to do service project:DONE
Asian Art Contest Entry:DONE
French Project:DONE
Kumon: ah crap I'm screwed...

I took some pictures of my Asian Art Contest entry half-finished, but I don't want to post them yet until I can post pictures of it finished, which might take a while because I have to wait until after the contest is over and I get the drawing back. I don't even know how many hours I spent on it, but it took at least two months and a couple late-night weekends. =.= Piano exams were horrible, piano recitals were horrible...The last recital was on Mother's Day, and yet there were more people than there were this time. Strange. And we finished the yearbook cover, finally. Actually, we, meaning I made the sketch in a few nights, said I was going to make it more detailed, kept it for another few weeks, and ended up giving it to Connie as it was. Then I set the deadline for three days after I gave it to her. Man, I'm such a great person to do colabs with. I can't believe that thing has my sig on it. Which Connie did, by the way.

Terrance came to my school today. He had the whole week off for Thanksgiving vacation or something, so I told him he could come and teach my PE class some frisbee tricks, since we're playing Ultimate for our unit. He had to wait for a BART train, so he was a little late. But instead of just hanging around for my PE period he stayed for the whole day and abused the little 6th graders' hyperness by making them run around on the field. I went down during lunch period and threw a frisbee with Terrance, Mr. Rose, and Mr. Peters. Connie and Katie kept stalking me. Emily and Nan were there too. DON'T THINK I DIINT SEE YOU >[ (And they stole my backpack.)

Anyways.

Piano pros and cons

All right, let’s see how much I remember about lists. P, feel free to add to this. I know you want to. x.x

Pros

  • Playing piano got me into Jazz Band. That class is a pain sometimes, but I still love it.
  • I’ve played since I was 3. It’s a part of my life now. (I don’t know where this goes. Pro or con?)
  • It helps me avoid the rebel Asian topic.
  • Sometimes I find things on the Internet that I like. Knowing how to play them is satisfying in a way.
  • I actually like some of the songs I play. I get this excited, happy, fuzzy feeling when I can play those songs. Sometimes you can do a little bit of improv, just to make your version of the song a little special.
  • I’m motivated to quit later than Kass did. xD

Cons (aka me venting after exams)

  • EXAMS. OmgomgomgomgOMG I will NEVER take one again. I should have taken one a LONG time ago, but I hated the idea of them, and now I know I was right.
  • RECITALS. ALMOST AS BAD AS EXAMS.
  • Practicing is such a time consumer. Every good Asian is expected to practice daily for at least 45 minutes. Such stereotypes. Tsk tsk.
  • It’s kind of useless. I’m probably not going to play piano for the high school anyways.
  • There’s a lot of money involved for lessons…
  • I have a constant guilty nag whenever I’m doing homework and I realize I didn’t practice that day during fourth period, so I should practice now.
  • I never get to play stuff I like. There’s no variety. Someone else could play the same song exactly the same. All the same notes.

Update....of doom. Bwaha.

Yea. This is just an update, since I was too lazy to post right when I had something to say.

Yesterday: Exchange students came to our school from Japan. They were about our ages, maybe some in ninth grade or something. They spoke a little bit of English. They weren't fluent, but if we talked slowly they understood. Each Japanese exchange student was paired up with a Leadership student from our school. There were more Leadership than exchange students, so some of us didn't get a Japanese student. Basically, we were just supposed to take them around with us and show them what a school day was like in America.

Anyways, when they arrived we were pretty excited. They all had school uniforms. Five guys, and a lot of girls. I didn't count - there's a list on my table but I don't want to get up to go look at it. Strangely, despite having, like, a billion Leadership, only three of us were guys, so some of the Leadership girls were paired up with Japanese guys.

The girl I was paired up with was named Mari. She was nice, but really, REALLY shy, or else just bored out of her mind. I can't blame her though. They didn't even get time to deal with jetlag - the plane, then straight to see us. I feel so bad for them. They must have been exhausted. Anyways, my first class with Mari was English/History. We had a substitute, so of course all the class rebels sat where they wanted. By the time we got there, they had already moved into our seats, so we had to find new ones.

The rest of the day was pretty bad too. In music we DID have an actual rehearsal, but we played all our least favorite songs. In French, the teacher was showing us our grades. To make it even worse, she moved Connie and Katie (who usually sit behind me and keep me amused) to the front of the class, so there was no one to help me start a conversation. It was REALLY awkward. I'd try to ask Mari a question, but she'd shake her head to show that she didn't understand. And when she did understand, she answered so quietly so that I couldn't really hear it, so of course I couldn't continue the conversation.

For lunch, Leaderhip, the exchange students, and the families that would be hosting the exchange students overnight met in the library and had a pizza party. I felt so embarrassed. The exchange students had to sit and watch Anne and Chowyu having a pizza-eating contest. 6 slices vs 9 slices. Jeesuz. Welcome to America. I asked Mari some more questions, and she smiled and answered them. It was still kind of awkward though. I regret deciding to sit at a 4-person table instead of a 6-person one.

After we ate, the Japanese boys did this acrobatic performance, which was super cool. We never do those things here. Then the girls did a dance with fans and music, which we also never do. One of them was cracking up the whole time. It makes us wonder whose idea it was to do these things. They also showed us posters they made with their names written in Japanese, and they'd tell us what each character meant. A lot of the characters overlapped with Chinese. They were pronounced differently, but they still meant the same thing.

I missed the science test, but our teacher said we could do that on Monday. The pizza party went outside for a while, and we played around and took pictures. They I took Mari to math, which was also a super disappointment, since we pretty much had free time (aka group work time, but nobody did that). I had NO idea Ren spoke Japanese. Scary. Anyways, I took Mari down to the library and left her with the host family. Sayonara, Mari. I hope I meet you again some day.

Today: What can I say? Woke up at 11, not because I'd gotten enough sleep, but because the phone went off. It was my mom, telling me to go to the Yummi Sushi Restaurant in the plaza. We were having brunch with my godparents. I THINK they're my godparents. I know I have a godmother, but my mom never said anything about a godfather. Ah well.

Drawing class was a super killer. I have to finish the drawing by tomorrow, and I've still got the background to do. I stayed there for like, 3 hours, and then I had to leave to go take piano lessons. I was supposed to go back after that, but I had the volleyball end-of-season party. The party was pretty fun. There were drinks, chips, food, and VOLLEYBALLS. 8DD~ We played for the whole two hours - circles, hitting lines, even games. My shoulder hurts again. I don't know WHAT I did to it that Friday I learned overhand serving from Gina, but now everytime I whack a ball really hard, it hurts like crazy.

Murhur...=3

I’m such a geek. =3
Digestive/Respiratory Kidneys/Circulatory

I did recolor these later to make them better-looking, so when I get the assignment back I’ll scan it again. I stayed up really late that day. ;~;

typographr (12:26:08 PM): And just for the record, the “Firefox” is actually a red panda, not a fox ;)
xXShikaraXx (12:26:15 PM): ._.
xXShikaraXx (12:26:23 PM): Oh…
typographr (12:26:36 PM): Hahaha, it’s okay.
typographr (12:26:45 PM): You used Futura… that makes up for it
xXShikaraXx (12:26:43 PM): xD
xXShikaraXx (12:26:56 PM): Red panda, fox, they’re both cute.
xXShikaraXx (12:27:03 PM): Until they bite your head off.
typographr (12:27:15 PM): :O
xXShikaraXx (12:27:30 PM): Which, I don’t think they will, unless you throw a pogo stick at their face or something.
typographr (12:28:14 PM): “Red pandas do not have any natural defense against predators. For this reason, they may easily fall prey to larger animals.”
typographr (12:28:15 PM): :/
xXShikaraXx (12:28:20 PM): Like pogo sticks!
xXShikaraXx (12:28:24 PM): =O
typographr (12:28:34 PM): Possibly :O

This was part of a conversation which had previously involved a can of compressed air and MacBook condoms. No, you probably don’t want to know.

Raaaain <33

Well, about this time last night it started raining. It went all the way through to the afternoon. It looks like it went everywhere. I always feel so strange when I'm talking to my friends, and its raining in one place but the sun's out for the other person.

I've missed the rain. A lot. Looking forward to winter :3
