subject Happy 20th Birthday!

Dear Yi Yi:

Happy 20th Birthday! Dad and Mom want you to know that we love you so much. Please love yourself so much for us.

You are not in your teens anymore and you are going to be a MATURE adult very soon. MATURE means to accept the imperfections in this world including things or persons even yourself and your parents.

Nobody is perfect and nothing is perfect. Imperfection is the beauty of this world. If everything and everybody are perfect, this must be some other world like heaven maybe.

We all live in this world that is not a perfect one. We have to learn how to accept its imperfections and furthermore to try to perfect them as much as possible. No matter how much you have tried, the imperfections will always be there.

As long as you have tried your best, you will be able to make peace to yourself and to everything around you. You will have to choose what deserves your trying since your time and energy are limited. Knowing both what you want to do and what your limitation is especially important. Give your best for what you are doing and the rest will be OK. Have faith in yourself and your life will be GREAT. You are loved.

Lots of love,

Mom and Dad

i believe i am slowly realizing that it is not enough

to be good,
or even to want to be good.
that sincerity of intentions, and the quest to improve our minds
that kind of quiet, understated integrity that
i once thought was necessary to, not transform
not become, even
but just a general betterment, a polishing of silver
well, no; i haven't yet relinquished that strange unsettling feeling
i can't be more you more me
but i grow discontent with my own stagnation

and even if it isn't of the noblest, purest of intentions...
i don't think it is entirely abominable.
