Woohoo...Go Parasailing

Parasail Photo

Thrill seekers will delight in this exciting adventure high above the water. Hanging on a tow line with a parachute strapped to your back and being pulled behind a speedboat, make this a thrill-of-a-lifetime ride. (101 Things To Do On Maui)

I completely agree with what the tourist magazine said in the above advertising quotes. A few years ago, my older sister and I decided to indulge ourselves in this "exciting adventure" of parasailing over Maui. I had such a blast...I wish I could do it all over again. The best thing about parasailing is that you get the adrenaline rush of floating around in the air held up by a parachute...however it's WAY safer than parachuting out of an airplane! Also, there's absolutely no age limit (for the young AND the old) AND no skill is involved, because it's just the operator who has to do any work. You just sit in the harness and let yourself be pulled up into the sky by the wind.

On my certain parasailing trip we hopped on a speedboat waiting for us at some dock on the coast of Maui and we sped off to the "middle of the ocean" and the passengers were lauched and landed on the back of the boat. By the way, the tethers that most operators use are longer than 700 feet. However, depending on which company you use, you could be launched off from the boat and land on the sandy coast OR launch off from land and land on the coast.

Most all companies have the choice of riding in a single-harness or in a tandem-harness (two person). I rode in a tandem-harness with my sister...I think the trip to the sky would be much more exciting with another person sitting next to you. Keep in mind though that the parachute will carry you higher with a lighter load...so if you're not so gung-ho about heights, definitely go tandem...but if you're a "thrill seeker" AND you don't mind being a bit of a "loner" then definitely go with the single-harness. That didn't quite apply to my sister and I though because we WERE both relatively light in weight so the wind ended up carrying us up higher than any other "parasailer" on that trip...that was so cool...hehe.

Basically...if you have time and some money to spare...I'm totally recommending going on a parasailing ride. Once you get in the air and get over the fact that you're pretty HIGH in the air...then you get a beautiful view of the Maui coast and the fantastic ocean. When I went up...I looked down at the massive, truly blue ocean...it was a breath-taking site...I could see right through the water at the ocean floor and the coral reefs and maybe even some fish swimming about.
