There are thousands of places to go and things to do in New York; however, I can only list so many. Here are four of the more well-known attractions- each is definately a must-see!!!

  • The Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is a famous New York skyscraper. It stands 102 stories tall, which is equivalent to about 1,250 feet. At the time of its completion in 1931, it was the tallest building in the world! It is located on Fifth Avenue between 33rd Street and 34th Street. Public observation decks are on the 86th and 102 floors. The Empire State Building is a really fun place to visit!

  • The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a very popular tourist attraction that is traditionally a symbol of freedom. Visitors take a 15 minute ferry trip from Battery Park to get to the Statue of Liberty, which is located at the entrance to New York Harbor in Upper New York Bay. In order to reach the top of the pedestal, visitors can take the stairs or elevator. Then, to reach the observation area in the crown, visitors must climb stairs. The views are spectacular at this point! I highly recommend visiting the Statue of Liberty!

  • Ellis Island

Ellis Island is a historically significant landmark. Located in New York Harbor (about a half mile from the Statue of Liberty), Ellis Island once served as a gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the United States. The station completely closed in 1954. However, the main building is now functions as a museum. The Ellis Island museum displays old photos, clothing, and passports of immigrants. One of my favorite exhibits in the museum is the one where visitors can listen to actual recordings of immigrants recounting old memories. Other exhibits visitors shouldn't miss are the American Immigrant Wall of Honor and rooms like the Registry Room and the Great Hall. These rooms now appear as they did in the early 1900's.

  • Central Park

If you find yourself in the Manhatten area, take some time to visit Central Park, between 59th and 110th Streets. Covering an area of 840 acres, Central Park includes the Mall, where events like outdoor concerts are held, and the Ramble, an enclosed bird sanctuary. There is also a zoo, small lakes, ice-skating rinks, playgrounds, and several fountains located within the park. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is also found in the park.

  • Museums

Museums contribute to New York's rich, diverse culture. This link will provide you with more information and my input on just two of the many museums New York has to offer.
